Urge Congress to permanently protect our wilderness and national monuments

The Wilderness Society is spearheading a campaign to pressure Congress to make permanent the National Landscape Conservation System, which has been instrumental in protecting the ecosystems of 26 million acres of wilderness. You can visit their Take Action page to urge your representative to vote for the National Landscape Conservation System Act (HR 2016).

The Conservation System Alliance, which is made up of over 70 non-profits dedicated to protecting our natural treasures in the western U.S., gives more background on the NLCS:

In June 2000, the National Landscape Conservation System - the most innovative American land system created in the last 40 years - was established to protect the crown jewels of the public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. …

The mission of the National Landscape Conservation System is to “conserve, protect, and restore these nationally significant landscapes that have outstanding cultural, ecological, and scientific values for the benefit of current and future generations.”
