I wanted to feature something very dear to me. Sharon Aguilera, my sister-in-law returned home from Africa with the most compelling story and website. It was of her trip to Kenya, Africa with Art and Mae Greenleaf of Wycliffe Associates. She spoke so eloquently of how they were enabling others with the gift of learning a language, enabling them to read and understand the bible. This is the beginning of knowledge. Knowledge creates change. These are beautiful people and here is an excerpt of their story…
It was 40 years ago, June 1967, when Art boarded a Braniff airliner for what we all believed would be a summer missionary trip.
He began by simply helping linguists and support staff at a remote linguistic center in the Amazon region of Ecuador.
Little did we know this would represent the start of a lifetime passion for the ministry of Bible Translation. Our passion grew the following year when Art returned and we were married in the Fall of 1968. This passion has led us, as a couple, to involvement on many levels in the work of SIL, WBT, and ultimately Wycliffe Associates.
We believe every individual should be able to hear, read, and comprehend God’s Word in their mother tongue. This is our driving passion.
