By Taryn Dameron, Agriculture Today, June 6, 2007. “U.S. finance tycoon George Soros reportedly has announced at the Ethanol Summit in Sao Paulo that he’s looking to invest $900 million (U.S.) in Brazilian ethanol production. According to a report from European news service Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Soros says the United States and European Union tariffs on ethanol should be eliminated to make investments in ethanol more viable. Together, the United States and Brazil produce 72% of the world’s ethanol. Soros says he believes Brazil’s abundant ethanol supply should be utilized by more countries.”
